I've been trying to convert my '04 to '05 spec's but I ran in some problems and i hope I can get some much needed help.

First off all let me tell shortly what I'm trying to do and why.

a. I want to use saddle packs (||||||), because I want to share the packs with my FK'05.
b. I want the batteries on the right side, for better balance.
c. I need lots of space for the ESC, because it's a bulky Schulze/Team Orion brushless one.

So what I did:
I. Rebuild the servo saver the other way around.
II. Turn the excentric plastic bearing holder from the servo saver 180 degrees.
III. Install the optional 6 cell battery strap on the right side.

So what are the problems:
1. The full plastic 'Lower Suspension Holder' isn't available for the left side. I just drilled holes in both and switched them. But maybe the axle can now exit through the 'new' holes. Semi solution.
2. The front belt touches the servo saver. No solution yet.
3. The battery pack does NOT fit between the bulkheads. If I push them with force, the chassis tweaks. No solution yet.
4. And IF I push the pack between the bulkheads, the front belt touches the front two cells. No solution yet.

I know already a sort of solution, but I'm maybe overlooking something and I don't like it:

- Put a FK'05 multi in front.
- Turn the rear diff 180 degrees
- Switch the front belt to the left and the rear belt to the left
- Use a dremel to free up space between the bulkheads. Not like that!!!
- Glue 'end caps' on the lower suspension holders to keep the axle in place.

But this is to expensive (for a 'second car') and not really a nice one.

So please other RC addicts or XRAY-team:

HELP HELP HELP.

I don't know exactly what you mean Joep !!

As far as I know you can use with the FK04 the same battery position as in the FK05. Turning the servo to the other side off the car is no big deal.

Maybe a picture would tell the whole story ? Don't use a dremel on your car yet. I'am almost sure that we on the forum have a solution for you.

Hi Joep,

In order to run the battery on the right and servo on the left you need to switch the belts from left to right as you indicated and turn the rear diff around. If you want to run a front one-way you will probably have to run the FK05 multi-diff instead of the FK04 one-way to move the gear to the other side. Alternatively you can try to mount the gear on the other side of the one-way gear mounting (maybe using spacers) to move it to the other side without having to turn the diff around.

On the bulkheads, I think there is no way around this but either using a dremel or use EVO2 bulkheads (which possibly will only fit GP3300 and smaller diameter cells).

BTW, you may want to consider putting the battery on the left and the motor and servo on the right instead. Contrary to the FK05 the FK04 will not be balanced left to right if you run the battery on one side. The battery side will be heavier. Since the tracks you run on are run counter clockwise having the extra weight on the inside of the majority of turns will be better.

Thanks Tony,

I hoped to get real balance in the car, but I need approx 100 gr. on the servo side to get thit balance :(

So maybe I turn it around again as you suggest and see how it goes.

My homework for next week ....

To fit my (FK'05) saddle packs in my FK'04 an alternative popped into my mind.

I got (from the previous owner of my EVO2) the . The size of a stickpack or saddle pack is identical.

The only thing I have to overcome is the possibility of the batteries making contact with the carbon of the bracket.

So 2 questions:
1. Any suggestions on protecting the batteries?
2. Has anyone experience with the effect on handling / setup with the batteries in the stickpack bracket?

Thanks in advance for any help. :)
