Using the inner holes on the arm will provide less dampening as the shock has less leverage to work against the compression forces applied to the wheel.

I used to use violet springs and the 2nd position in on the tower, with the outer holes on the arm. I now use Purple springs and the outer position on the tower, with the inner holes on the arm. Bear in mind that I use a setup that relies heavily on mechanical grip from my tires and body downforce and it requires a very hard suspension setup. (XRC chassis, red springs in outer holes up front, 2mm front sway bar, 70w/60w oil front/rear, 2d/1d camber front/rear). I'm actually thinking of using harder non-xray springs in the front.

Hi Doug,

At the snowbirds we had the same problem. We cutted the rear suspension arm where the screw of the shock goes in. The shock goes more inside so the wheel didn't hit the shock(ball joint) anymore.
Must say that foam tyres are very wide compared to normal 24mm rubber tyres.

Thanks Jilles. Were there any negative effect on the shocks caused by changing the angle or did you chage the wheelbase to compensate?

Jilles,

So are you saying that the team shaved "into" the arm a little? Or did you leave the mounting surface perpendicular to the chassis centerline?

I first tried this and shaved the entire mount off of the arm, but the lower shock ball started to bind since it was mounted at an angle.

you need to remove a little of the arm as well. It does not take much. I have done this since the release of the FK and have not had a problem with weakening the arm at all. Just use a dremmel and take some material off.

As Joneser already said you might have to cut a little bit more.
It wouldn't effect the arm stiffenes much.

Btw, we did the same with the Evo2 and the FK04 in the past.
