I have taken this from another forum - originally posted by Mark Payne, but his comments are valid and we would all appreciate Xray's view.

I am not saying that the 3700's will not "go in". They will.

However: If you lay the individual cells (unsoldered) on the chassis, they are cramped. The outer cells rest on the outer edge of the chassis slot only. The next cell in prevents it from touching down on both sides of the slot. If you then push down on the outer cell so that it does touch down correctly, it pushes the next cell in up and out of the way.

The errors here are small and in mm's only. I appreciate that not all will see it unless you look in detail. The chassis slot centres are based on 3300 cells, not 3700's, end of story, a ruler and a set of calipers tell you that...... unless Xray have changed it and some have 3300 versions and some have 3700?

If you then try to do a little chassis chamfer to sit the cells down in the solts a little then the problems become slightly worse also.

I like the chassis to form a jig for my cells. I then glue the pack up on the chassis before I solder them up. 100% perfect cell alignment every time.

Now when you tape these in you can use minimal pressure on the tape so as not to tweak the chassis which is the whole point of the tape is it not?

Someone said they fit like a glove....... hmmmm. Look again.

I would estimate that 3700's are going to sit 1mm high (compared to 3300) if you just plonk them and my 3700's with a bit of chassis filing sit 1mm lower.
That's a 2mm difference between "doing it right" and "plonking them in". Based on the fact that one major FK05 design feature to get the COG down
what is the point of not correcting this issue?

So measure the slot centres, measure the cells and have a think about it. The Xray build is a piece of precision ... the cell fitting by default is not."

As I'm about to committ to buying some 3700's for this weekend's BTCC race I need to know what the true position is...please :D

Dave, I checked and you are correct, the current chassis is still based on 3300 measurements. Mario is preparing some instructions on how to modify the chassis to cope with the 3700s. The chassis is also being redesigned for 3700s but unfortunately that won't help you right now.

Tony, ever since the new front shocktower for the short suspension arms I noticed the front arms don't have a lot of droop.
E.g. at ride height 5.5mm the springs are about to be compressed and have only just a bit of play.
Is this normal? (I had 2 FK04s en now a FK05, both had so I would assume so)

Yes it is normal. Normally it is not a problem, but on bumpy tracks it can sometimes be. This is especially true if you run the arms in the high roll center position. Then again we also want to be able to run the arms in the lower roll center position. In fact with rubber tires this seems to give the best results sofar.
