andrewd - what type of paint & what brand body are you using? We've found that some of the tamiya spray can paint (white that I know of for sure) will cause random cracking on Protoform bodies even when not running the body. I had a brand new PF body crack in the tail light area just in transportation to/from the track. So I've stopped using Tamiya white spray cans and I only use Duratrax spray cans now for practice bodies and the issue seems to have stopped. Other friends of mine had issues with a particular shade of blue from Tamiya, but others use different Tamiya colors with no problems at all. The Duratrax paints are basically just re-branded Pactra paint after Pactra stopped production. All of the Duratrax cans as well as the airbrush paints seem to be fine on PF bodies.
I do agree that cold weather will make the lexan more brittle, as it would with any plastic item. I would think that the body would have time to warm up before you get to the track and get everything set up though. Worth a shot bringing them inside to see if it helps though!
Hope this helps, Robbie
