hi, last week I was at rug racers running 17.5 blinky. It was good fun. However the car felt nervous and snapped, and had alot of oversteer in leg 1- heres the vid. Im the pale orange car started in 5th

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K7cUrj1f2E
and heres setup

xform/index.php?act=view&ID=646&setup=t4

What do i need to change to make the car happier/easier to drive?

Remove the kickup
4mm shims on rear hub
1mm bump steer
0mm ackerman
6mm front and 5mm rear downstops
equal front/rear ride height
2.5 springs front and rear
1.3mm rear swaybar

This will tame down the car a lot if you do all these things.

Thanks. Ive ordered 2.5 springs and a 1.3mm roll bar for the rear. I have also changed the ackerman and camber link shims so hopefully thatll make it a lot better! Running 13.5 boosted at the next round, will that require a similiar setup?

Many thanks

I am having the exact same issue with a somewhat similar setup.

Would someone mind to go through the suggested chages in this thread and explain why they are recommend what what the effect is?

I would like to understand what to do and not just make the changes as told.

Cheers!

Luke

That's a very strange setup. With the wheelbase as you've got it that moves a lot of weight rearwards, which will make it very tail happy into the corners. And then the lowered front RC (on the arm mounts) will make things even worse through and out of the corners.

I'd go back to a 100% kit setup and start from there, it'll be loads better.

Remove the kickup => The more kickup, the more weight transfer to the front off power => more steering
4mm shims on rear hub => Less shims on the rear hubs means more roll in the rear. This results in more entry steering, because there will be more force on the outer front tire. Going down from 4mm to 3.5mm makes my car loose on our low-med grip track. I don't want to how it would drive with only 2mm of shims between it.
1mm bump steer => more bump steer = more midcorner steering
0mm ackerman => more ackerman = more aggressive steering (and more high speed and less low speed steering)
6mm front and 5mm rear downstops => gives a neutral easy to drive car. More will make it a little harder to drive, but makes the car a little more aggressive.
equal front/rear ride height => The higher the rear/the lower the front, the more steering you'll have
2.5 springs front and rear => This is a good balanced starting point
1.3mm rear swaybar => Thicker rear swaybars mean less roll in the rear. The more the rear rolls, the more force that will be put on the outer front tire. Thicker swaybars gives calmer corner entry.
