I ran on a mid/large sized carpet track today (10 rolls wide) and found I had problems right from the off with grip.

The carpet was new but the Schumachers seemed to have plenty of grip.

I started with this setup;

This setup used on Friday;

And eventually ended up with this;

This was the result;

Although at first the cars don't look massively diffferent at each meeting, the 1st video the car was predictable and easy to drive, in the second you can see the rear of the car trying to step out etc during some of the more sweeping corners.
Some were suggesting that there was actually too much grip and this was unbalancing the cars. But there was very little wear on the tyres, and no tyre 'dust' on the inside of the bodyshell so we know that's not true. (After 8 runs the tyres still have the 'seam' from the mould around the middle.

I tried making the chassis very flexible by removing layshaft screws etc and loosening the motor mount nut. but this didn't work.
Tried raising the rear link at both ends and this made it worse.

Should I try to make the chassis stiff and run soft springs etc.

Hi Damian
Hope this works

This what I ended with on a low grip carpet, tq'ed against 13.5T boosted leading A final till an incident near the end of the final with a backmarker.

Camber links in hole 1 front & back, 3 deg toe in rear.

have you tried a 1.3 f and a 1.2 r anti roll bar?
and maybe a harder rear spring,could it be that it was rolling too much at the rear hence the snatch,only thing(and i know im no expert)i would have done would be to go to 450 rear oil and a 2.6 rear spring

I'm also looking for a good setup. Our carpet is low-medium grip and the control tires are Ridex rex 34. I raced for the first time with my T4 '14 last weekend and I couldn't get the car right. The car was pushing a little on turn in and during mid corner the rear end suddenly breaks out. All screws were removed near the spur gear.

The change that helped the most was making the rear wheelbase a little smaller.

hi Alex,why a stiffer rear anti roll bar?im using the 1.3 f and 1.2 rear,have done all year on the t4,its my first run with the 14 this weekend(weather permitting)
as i had a good starting set up on the t4,would it be better for me to start with that set up or does the 14 need different settings?i also ran anti dive but with a 1mm shim under the fr,would it be a good idea to stick with the anti dive but achieve it via the arm mounts?

the changes ive made from the basic asphalt is 1.3 front bar,2.7 springs all round,400cst f 350 r,rear shock mount 2nd hole out,front shock 3rd hole out,but i have to run higher ride height 6f 6.2 r,and i haven't removed any top deck screws,when would that be useful? i never tried it on the t4
thanks in advance Rich
ps we really could do with an upto date set up book as the t3 set up book doesnt explain everything thats new,is there going to be a new one?
cheers

Hi guys moving rear wheelbase back 1mm def helped but we are still suffering with this loose off power rear end. I've spoken to Alex on this and he suggested the same things. slowly working through them over the last 2 weeks. moving shocks into hole 2 all round (more laid down) helped but all screws out from the layshaft did not really feel any different. we have had a motor mount post made and tried that on friday night as well which did not help with our current set up. i'm personally waiting for the 1 piece RF suspension block.

All sounds like it's too stiff? And the option parts make it stiffer?

i finally ran my 14 today,and also had the rear break away off power,fixed it fairly well with droop settings of 3 r 4 f ,on 6mm ride height
i was in mixed conditions on asphalt,almost dried out for 1 run and on wets the car was very planted,but as soon as the grip went it was a handful,i ran a 1mm shim on inner rear and 3.5 on the outer,on the front(which had awesome steering all day)i ran 1mm outer and 2mm inner,
still work to do,but i was 1 sec behind a very fast driver,who was 10secs behind his faster brother,so i was happy with 3rd
roll on the next meeting

skiddins,ill possibly be at newbury next friday,any pointers would be great,you did well there last time out,zotti is quick on carpet too it seems

11 seconds behind what? Just to give an idea where set ups could be aimed at.
3 weeks till personal 14 arrives.
Can someone owning a 14 and T4, T3 12,T3 11 or T3 please compare chassis flex
