I'm having problems with my truggy hoping someone here can help me out. Here is the problem, I can not get enough power to the rear diff front diff on acceleration spins but the rear want. New rear diff; center and front, shocks rebuilt with a brand new Nova p5. Am I missing any thing.
PS. Tried using 7-10-7 cst oil that was recommended on setup did not work and tried various other combinations as well.

Sounds to me like a clutch issue. Have you tried replacing the clutch? I am also looking for some advice on tuning my clutch in my XT8-2009. But it would appear that no one here has anything to offer.

I have a new clutch system on truck and rebuilt diffs. What size motor should be used for the truck, .21 or .25?. Right now there is a nova .21 P5 installed.

Mine has an RB WS9 .21. I think it could use some more power, personally. But a friend of mine who was an accomplished racer said it runs just fine. And that for "racing" a 21 will use less fuel and still keep up with the 28. However, HIS truggy has a 28 in it....
I think it is a matter of personal style and choice on the engine. Also the particular track you're running on the most.

As for why I need tuning help on my clutch, just the simple fact the clutch is three years old now and needs replaced. It is still the original carbon clutch set up as is directed in the instruction manual. I was looking for some insight that might make it work better without dropping serious money on that Vario Clutch or similar. I see Aluminum clutch shoes, and carbon. I see many different types of springs. I guess a how-to on clutch tuning would be helpful.

If you want to make the clutch more aggressive with less rpm's use use softer springs and stay with carbon shoes. If you use aluminum you will taken it apart to clean up the clutch bell more than you have to.

Thanks for the info, I hope the info that I submitted to you is helpful as well but I would continue using the medium hard springs they work good for me.

Hi Guys.
You need to tune your clutch to the track conditions.
If you are running on a loose slippery track that has few jumps, you may choose to use 4x carbon shoes - gives very smooth power delivery without much wheel spin (the clutch engages very low in the engines power curve, and has a reasonable amount of slip).
If you are looking for more punch use thicker/heavier springs, and Al. shoes. This allows the clutch to engage higher in the RPM range where there is more torque.
You can use a combination of 2x Al + 1x carbon with 1mm springs for a smooth setup with a bit of punch. An "average" truggy clutch set up suitable for most conditions would probably be 3x Al with 3x 1mm springs.
Your clutch will need regular maintenance, with de-burring the shoes, replacing bearings, replacing shoes before the spring rubs on the bell, etc.
Most people find a good race .21 more than adequate for this truggy.

Thank you for your tips Paddy. It is nice to know somebody still tunes in to this forum. Do you have a particular brand of clutch that you use? or is one about as good as any other?

I probably would not get too hung up on a particular brand of clutch, the kit (Xray) clutch components are very good. Go with a brand most of the guys use in your area, and that parts are readily at hand. An expensive, blingy, adjustable thingy is not required, keep it simple, and experiment with the setup to see what suits you, your track conditions, and the power delivery of your engine.
I often run 1x0.9mm spring and 2x 1.0mm springs with all Al shoes to help keep traction at my local track, but may change to all 1.0mm springs at another track. I may even change the setup during the course of the day as track conditions change, particularly at a big event where the track sees a lot of running.

are you getting any drive at all to the rear?
Are your rear brakes adjusted to tight, therefore dragging on the rear centre drive shaft and transferring power away from the rear?
Are your diffs shimmed correctly and not slipping?
7-10-7 should deliver enough drive to the rear
I tend to run 7-10-5 and its great.
