XRAY - Model racing cars

can somebody help me to understand droop and how to use it and also how it affects the car. i have always just used the kit settings and feel the need to try more things with my racing.

i have just over 3 months until the next season of EWS and i would like to be much more competitive this time

Have you got this although for the T3 most of it still applies to the T4.

Or the other good reference to explain what each change of the various options (i.e. droop, roll centre, springs, caaster, camber etc.) is the xxx main chassis set up book.

For EWS Jimmy Maddison's set up from last seasons EWS is in the set up sheet database (although this with Sorex 32's which might change for the next series)

Primarily it helps you shift more or less weight from one end of the car to the other under braking or accelerating.

EG if you are accelerating out of the corner and the back is loose then increasing the front droop means the front will have more uplift and transfer more weight to the rear to help settle the car.

EG If you are entering a corner and the back is loose then reducing the rear droop will give the rear less uplift and transfer less weight to the front, ie keeping more weight on the rear.

In my view it is one of the more powerful tuning options

Less droop means a higher number.

As Skiddens says if you lower your downstop number you will increase your droop/uplift. Do not forget that if you change your ride height this will automatically change your droop and so you may (or may not) want to change your downstops to regain your original droop. Increasing your ride height reduces your droop.

Think about it this way. If you have a ride height of 5.5 and a downstop of 4.5- that = 10. If you increase your ride height to 6.0 then reduce your downstop to 4.0, maintaining the 10,and you will be pretty close to the droop/uplift that you had before the ride height change.

I tend to run more droop that kit setting as I have always found with the XRAY Tcs that if they have a fault (bit of a strong word in this context) they can tend to be a bit loose in the rear (asphalt)and I find that a bit more front droop sorts it for my setup/track/style.
