Hi,

I read adding shims under shocks make the car easier to drive and we can see that often on Alexander Hagberg's setup sheets.

BUT I don't understand, is it ONLY shims under top of shocks OR on top AND on bottom.

The notice book say both but in such cases, nothing, no angles is changed?

I always put shims top and bottom. If only top the shock is at an angle and that could make shock shft bind slightly.

For the front shocks, mostly I write 2mm in my set-up sheet which means 2mm at the bottom, and 4mm at the top to have the shock mounted in a straight angle to the ground. So if I don't run shims it means I still have a 2mm at the top front shock mount. At the rear its 2mm at the top and bottom if it states 2 in the sheet.

When and why would you increase to the 4mm shim at the front?

I have found that I can 'tune' a bodyshell slightly by adding shims to the front shocks.

i.e. If I run 1mm with a Speed6, if I then switch to an LTC-R I might go to 2mm of shims.
This would reduce the aggressiveness of the LTC-R slightly to make it easier to drive.

The best bet is to run your bodyshell, and if it feels just a little too aggressive, add the shock shims and see how it feels.
Sometimes it feels like it smooths it out too much, but if it's easier and more consistent to drive you can get faster race times.
