hi all,

the instructions say "it is extremely important that the arms move freely on the pivot pins".

without yet putting on the transmission or shocks, are the arms, under their own weight, meant to 'drop' freely after initial assembly????

mine are not 'dropping' freely...they move up and down smoothly etc, with the help of my hand, but not dropping under their own weight.

do i need to use the HUDY Arm Reamer until they 'drop' freely under their own weight??

i have used the shims as instructed, and its a snug fit, not tight, but i wanted to know what is meant exactly by "it is extremely important that the arms move freely on the pivot pins".

thanks in advance.

I do make sure my wishbones drop freely under there own weight, I have just fitted the Graphite wishbones and I had this problem also. So I just used a small round file on each wishbone and they now drop under there own weight with no binding at all.

It may not be the pins that are causing you the problem. Try slackening the lower suspension holders (302044) and, whilst pushing them away from the suspension arm, tighten the screws. The suspension arms should definately be free to drop under their own weight.

The first thing I do when getting wishbones ready to fit, it to put the pivot pin through and then hold the pin at each end (so the wishbone is free to move) and gently swing the pivot pin towards and away from me, then suddenly hold the pin still.
The wishbone should continue to swing briefly like a pendulum until it settles facing straight down under it's own weight.

If it sticks at all use a reamer on it to enlarge the holes by a fraction.

The advantage of doing it this way is that you know that any binding is nothing to do with the shims or pivot pin roll centre holders or vice versa.

Skiddins

P.S. when I fitted graphite wishbones, they were particularly bad and needed a lot of reaming.

I am having this same problem when building my T4.

I have followed the instructions carefully, correct shims in the right places, but as soon as I go to tighten up the screws that attach the pivot block to the alloy holder, the wishbone jams up and wont fall by its own weight :?:

If I leave the screws loose, they will come out? :P

Is the "secret" to do them up lightly, using threadlock?

thank you for the reply, after a lot of screwing and unscrewing, and using the tap with the end of a hex driver, all 4 arms drop nicely on their own weight now... 8)
