Hey Xray,

I really hope you guys are following the forums in the US, specifically the thread on RCTech.Net on the Xb4. There was a lot of anticipation for this car and there appear to be a few issues that you guys need to address immediately. There are way too many reports of cars breaking to just be weekend hacks with bad driving.

1) Composite Diff Gears: Either ramp up production of the NT1 gears or gets some xb4 metal gears out quickly. The composite gears simply are not holding up for the average joe here in the US. You are depending too much on weekend hacks/average joe's to properly set the slipper. Even then, it still seems the gears are just too weak.

2) Shock Towers: Quite a few reports of broken shock towers, both front and rear. There are already aftermarket companies making 4mm towers for the car because the 3mm towers appear to be too weak.

3) Diff Cases: This could be related to the shock towers, but a number of broken diff cases being reported. It appears the ball cups work too well and don't pop off in crashes causing the shock towers to break or diff cases.

Please address these issues quickly. There were very high expectations for this car given how indestructible the xb9/808 models were and people are starting to get a little ticked. Everyone accepts there will be issues with first run cars, but at the same time, they also want the company to proactively address issues and not just brush them off as user error. The vast majority of buyers of the cars are not Pro drivers and we need a car that doesn't need everything to be exactly precise to make it more than one lap without breaking.

Thanks

As I posted on RCTech...

This is the Holiday Season and many if not all of the people involved are likely on holiday with their families.

I know that, personally, I have a mandated vacation time between Christmas and the New Year from my employer as they are shut down.....this is quite common...

I do not know for certain that XRAY is in a Holiday shutdown, only that it is relatively standard in the manufacturing industry.

With the gearbox, would, not putting the carbon brace front screws in help, till a fix is found?

also,as most are having probs on the second or third run with the gears, could this be due to the slipper beding in,then being to tight?

Then problem with the rear diff gears by the looks of things is down to the slipper being too tight, so there is no natural slipping like a ball diff. I think this problem will sort it's self out over time as racers knowledge improves.

One of the big issues most of UK drivers are experiencing is broken/hair line cracks on front bulkheads near to the camber link screw.

Is there anything we can do?

I don't think that is true, there are a lot of durango drivers that have the knowledge and they also brake the gears on the xb4.
the answer is simpel, the gears are not strong enough.

It has been said that putting a little to much diff oil in is also adding to the gear problem

I know also alot of durango owners had problem with the steel gears on the (nearly £500)first one, along with other problems,i dont think all problems were or even are totaly sorted on the v3,they were a new company,so it just shows a big company like Xray are capable of pushing boundrys, lets hope we can get them to work :)

Regarding the shock towers, is it not possible to put 2 towers together, when the bj4 was first out this was an issue and this was a cure.

The issue I see with this is u are moving the weak point, if the bulk heads are cracking this will then become the weak point!

Regarding the diff, is it actually the crown and pinion (external gears) or planet gears (internal) as u will move the weak point again, but changing internal to metal extra pressure would be put on the pinion and crown unfortunately the only way to strengthen the transmission is a metal cover plate pinion and planet gears inside, u will obviously be adding weight.

With every new car u get teething problems, unfortunately xray with the reputation of a car with the strength of a tank, some people seem to think everything is bullet proof.

Please take this in the way it's ment and positive, I would likely be annoyed paying top dollar then not being able to use, but it has been christmas and new year, I'm sure now xray are looking into all issues put forward, and will resolve as soon as they can. It's one thing that's guaranteed xray does listen to us, and does act promptly.

J

My shocks are leaking too. They leak through the threads between the body and the cap. I will try some thread tape in between at the next running session.
