Ok, so the T4 is an awesome thing, very happy with it and seems to definiately be a step up from the T3 12.

Question about pinion gears and the hole in the chassis where you are supposed to tighten the pinion. Is it me or is this hole useless? It is directly inline with the spur gear.

I am using Robinson Racing 48p pinions and SP MMM motors. I need to mount the pinion backwards (with the set screw to the outside under the front belt). There's no way to get a straight shot at the set screw thru the chassis hole.

Anyone?

Chris...

Me to.

I use RW spurs but I get the same problem.

I have now taken to loosening the motor and changing the pinion, then re-installing the motor.
After trying a couple of times I know how much of the motor shaft needs to stick out of the end for me to fit the pinion 1st time.

I might try widening the hole slightly soon.

well the hole is designed for original Xray spur gears and pinions. If you can not tight the pinion from the bottom even when you turn the pinion to oposite side, try to tight it from the top (through the cut in top deck)

The XRAY cars are designed and optimized for XRAY parts. The T4 will fit perfectly the XRAY spur gears which are all used by the team drivers. So we may suggest to use the original XRAY spur gears and you will have no problem :D

haha great answer. i can see how the 3mm wide xray pinions would work without problems :)

but to be a tiny bit serious for a minute, the hole is 5.5mm, the gap in the top deck is 6mm, the xray spur gear is 4.5mm wide and is positioned exactly in the middle of the hole. If i want to use a std 4.5mm wide pinion, then no matter which way i mount it perfectly aligned with the spur there is simply not enough space to jam a 1.5mm hex driver in there from the top or the bottom.

suggestion for future, optimize the hole a little bit bigger :)

now to order some xray pinions, he he!!

That is the one thing that stops me from loving the T4.

I have three T3:s and a T4 already, but no intentions what so ever to buy one single xray pinion - I own around 30 standard pinion gears allready and if those wont work then I´ll look for something more versatile... Or drill the hole larger :)

I've tried different motors to mount and there's the difference, too. I.e. on Team Orion's VST motors even the Xray pinion gear doesn't fit because of a too long rotor shaft (touches the LiPo before the composite nuts do(!)) and the flat spot on the shaft is too short. I'm not sure if it's legal to cut the shafts but the Team Orion VST motor shaft is really much too long for probably any of the up-to-date narrow chassis designs.

But that's Team Orions problem ... and not the problem of the chassis makers.

Me to.

I'm using Robitronic pinion and I had the same issue. Trying and looking for, I resolved tightening the pinion (upward) starting from the front-top of the model :D

I gave up last February, ie the day I built my 012. I take the top deck off - pain in the butt if you are visiting a new track :x

I have milled the pinion hole over by 4mm (Into a slot) and now have no problem fitting any pinions now :-))

I use RW Spurs & pinions... I use the pinion in the "wrong" way and can tight by side on LiPo space.
So... I'm using with no problem only a little more work but nothing bad at all.
I know now the correct pinion position so all my work is fast to change a pinion.

I think its a quick solution, but in my opinion, xray should alowed other brands to put their spurs and pinions.
