Hello,

I transformed the spring rates of the coloured springs into N/mm and came to the conclusion that those coloured springs are MUCH harder than the black springs. Is this because the coloured springs were designed for NiMH cell racing and the black ones for LiPo racing? The hardest black spring (3.4 N/mm) is only 19.4 lbf/inch. So what should I do with my 'additional spring kit' consisting of 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 lbf/inch? Rebranding them and sell them as HARIBO gummy bears ...

No really ... maybe a little notice should be added that those springs are no longer the 'basic' and 'additional' spring kit.

Regards,
Green Wing

I have also played a bit with old and new springs. I put old yellow springs (softest available I believe) on the rear of my car since by some chart comparison they are a bit softer than the black springs provided for the rear in the kit. I am looking for a little bit more rear grip and I hope this will help.

Are the current springs and the old springs the same length? ; I have a vague distant memory that maybe they are not?

I think black springs look cool so never considered trying the old ones again :)

They are different lenghts, the old springs do not work on the new cars in my opinion

Thanks for your answers guys! Their length is not the problem. They just are much too hard (except 14 to 20 lbf/inch). I could use them on our super sticky once-a-week-raced carpet track during winter only but on 'normal' carpet tracks even on foam tyres the higher rated springs are too hard. Maybe they are just for foam racing on carpet and/or in combination with NiMH batteries. I don't know the G-capability of those cars exactly but just imagine the 200g more over a LiPo pack and a corner ran by 5G. That would be 1000g more load on the springs.

However ... I'll get some common black ones in addition.

The old colour coded springs are available in a wider range because they were supposed to be used with foam tire racing back in the days, where a much stiffer spring was needed, especially in the front. We still use the rear spring in nitro racing for the NT1.

The new black springs with the "C" rating were introduced at a time where foam tire racing was on the way of being replaced by rubber tire in all classes. That is why they are softer.
