XRAY - Model racing cars

Well, here we are at the end of May. The outdoor season at RROL is starting on Saturday. Unfortunately I won't be able to get out as much this season with the day being changed from Sunday to Saturday.

Last year I set the SCAR records in both lap and overall time. The only Xray in the field so it felt pretty good to do that. I'd be surprised to see those records stand this year however. The track will be resealed later in the season which will no doubt bring up the traction and lap times.

I will post results as they come in.

July 9th was to be the 4th race at RROL. It turned out to be the first due to rain cancellations. I was unable to make it but I will update results when I have them. Track was resealed the Thurs before race day so tires were glazing over I was told.

Our fearless leader in SCAR has added a cost effective subgroup to race with SCAR and WGT cars called TransAm. Basically the rules are the same as SCAR except it uses a Silver can motor, the same used in Tamyia Mini's. Any year Camaro, Firebird, Mustang, Barracuda, Challenger or Javelin Body must be used.

I have been running this new edition with my X10 T-bar car and so far I have run faster at Lou's Speedway with it then my SCAR X10 Link. It's very smooth and cab be very competitive against the SCAR and WGT cars.

This past weekend was the 10th annual Karl Mackie Race Against Cancer. SCAR raced along side WGT (1cell 17.5). The WGT cars had an advantage over the SCAR due to the lighter weight. Xray was not able to break into the A but we did take 1-2-3 in the B

At the end of the one day race we raised $3780.15 for a 10 race total of $25151.15

Oval was also a Class. I used my custom X10 chassis and it was working very well. Unfortunately I was stuck in the B for qualifying but was able to make it to 3rd in the main. I was set in a grove for 2nd in the A main when my rear hub came loose and I ended up stripping my spur and finished 4th. I ran SCAR specs to everyone's WGT (1cell 17.5). Alex was able to drive his SCAR to second place in his first oval race.

The SCAR minimum weight has dropped from 1030g to 980g in order to help them keep up with the WGT cars (17.5 1cell). I thought it would be a challenge to drop 50g and still be balanced. In the end I'm at 981g. I'm not sure I'm perfectly balanced but my car was working very well after it's diet. A few more tweaks to electronics and the placement and it should be very interesting to see the performance gain of the weight drop.

Well, Alex sold his X10 link, to me Good for me but that is one less Xray driver here. I'm going to use the chassis for WGT (17.5 1cell). It seems to be the way more and more people are going at our local track. I will be keeping my original X10 link as my SCAR car. It needs some work with the weight drop.

Track #11 is done...My SCAR X10 Link was dialed near the end but I wasn't able to get 43 laps to take top spot in SCAR. My WGT X10 Link (For Sale) ran just once and needs some attention.

Up next is the Canadian Onroad Nationals. Great race and great exposure for the hobby being in the centre court of a mall

Some big names coming up from the US to run WGT. I think SCAR will have a hard time making the A-main.

Xray X10 SCAR finished 5th in the 10 car A-main at the 2012 Canadian Onroad Nationals behind 2 top US drivers and 2 local drivers all running WGT 17.5 boosted. (Note: SCAR is 25.5 2 cell blinky) I'll post results when I can.

SCAR rules have been updated. 930g is the new weight minimum and all wgt bodies are now allowed. 13.5 blinky wgt has also been added to the mix for those who don't want to run boosted 17.5 or scar. Should be interesting to see how this effects the results.

I'll be getting a Proto-form Sophia body and trying to drop 50g's on my SCAR before I switch to 13.5 blinky.

The switch to 13.5 blinky has been made. With the new SCAR weight at 930g I was unable to get the X10 link down to that weight and still remain balanced. So I have switched to 13.5 blinky. Getting the weight to 930g was very easy. I may need to add more weight once the sophia body goes on and the tires get smaller.

The 2012 SCAR cars are making a charge. I feel the CRC cars with the reverse mount servo have an advantage over the X10. If I was able to move the servo I would be able to get the esc in the middle of the chassis with a 2 cell lipo (SCAR rules). This would keep my weight down and the car balanced. Until then I will run 13.5 blinky and hopefully improve on my best SCAR results.
