I’m in need of some advice, I am seriously thinking of picking up a new NT1, I currently do not own an RC car so would need to buy everything (kit, radio, servo’s, receiver, engine, etc, etc). There is a local club that sets up a track in the summer so I would probably take part in that from time to time but would also want to use the car on the street as well.

The money is not really an issue and am willing to pay the extra $$ over what a RTR car would cost to have the opportunity to select all the components and build the car for myself, that being said, I don't want to spend a bunch of money on something that will get detroyed. I realize that this car is overkill for what I am using it for but I really want to build a kit from the ground up and also am interested in the idea of working on and maintaining the car. I guess my question is will the NT1 work for this type of application or am I going to totally destroy it by using it off the track. I wouldn’t plan on doing anything crazy with it off the track other than messing around with it on the street and parking lot.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Belts are very fragile running in the streets or parking places. The asphalt over there is always dirty with pieces of rocks from the asphalt that can distroy your belts. I know a lot of people runing belt driven cars in the streets without problems but the few times I have done it I always did find small damages to the belts of even a compleete distroy of belt and pulley.
It is just a risk to take....

Other thing you have to avoid is a continious run up and down on a long straight. The engines are running a very high rpm. On a track it is just a moment but on long straights continious up and down the engine will get a lot of load due the high rpm's that it will/can have a short life and probably end up with a quick broken conrod.

Great thanks for the feedback, I was wondering if I could get some opinions on my kit, the following is a list of components that I have selected, before I go ahead and buy them I wanted to get some feedback on my selections and perhaps something that would work better, keep in mind that I intend to use the car for occasional club racing on a track as well as street and parking lot use, so nothing too crazy:

chassis: Xray NT1 (2011)
engine: RB Concepts Touring Junior 11 .12 with 2668 tuned pipe
glow plugs: RB concept #6 medium turbo plug
radio: Spektrum DX3C
Steering servo: Spektrum S6040 digital titanium high speed servo
Throttle servo: Spektrum S6020 digital hi torque metal gear servo
2300mAh LiPo battery and voltage regulator for car electronics
Hudy star box 1/10 starter box

I also had a couple of questions:

1. Is a fuel filter required?

2. For parking lot/street use I was thinking of picking up a set of rubber tires but am unsure of the size, any recommendations of a good brand would be helpful as well.

3. Foam tires for racing, 26mm front and 30mm rear are correct sizes?

4. Is it possible to set the car up without a set-up station, at least for the near term until my skills improve?

Nice setup, you are sure you want to run that battery or those servo's?

I would sugest a normal 5 cell NiMh 1600mAh or a LiFe battery with which you do not need a regulator. Regulators can be a source of interference.

1) not realy, there is a filter in the tank but an in-line filter is better and isn't the money.

2) Look arround in the electric scene, those guys are running rubber. All I know some clubmembers have runned CS27 tires with succes but they do wear fast.

3) that is right, mostly used is 37 shore in front and 40 in rear.

4) A camber gauge can be found for a few dollars. Front toe-in/out can be done on sight. Rear toe-in can be done wit a long straight bar against the rear wheel to the front of the car with some positions of screws or body posts to get left and right equal and looking arround you can find cheap droop gauges like from 3-racing.

O yes, forgot to mention. These days you can find the so called HV servo's which do not need a regulator running a LiPo battery.

I myself do run Savox SC-1257 servo's, they are fast and affordable but not HV.

Yes, they are suitable for both positions. When doing that you can get a 3rd one as spare for both positions. This servo has become very populair because its price and performance.

I run the Align DS620 version which is actually the same servo which I can get locally for just 49 euro.
