hi,

i have only finished building the NT1 car recently, and driven it up and down street 3-4 times.

i can't seem to get the 2nd gear to engage, even after adjusting outwards the spring loaded shift-point screws. i'm pretty certain i'm not already only driving on the 2nd gear, as there is reasonable pickup from stand still.

what next can or should i be looking for/at??? :?:

lift the car off the ground, and slowly increase the revs of the engine. You should feel/hear the car change into second gear.
Lifting it off the ground increases the rpm of the gearbox because there is no load on the transmission.
Let us know how you get on.

Hi...

it has happened to me too. I solved the problem by compressing the springs a few time before mounting the complete gear. You can also sand a little the gear shoes in order for them to engage more easily with the spur.

I suggest you will get the new #338583 XRAY NT1 CONICAL CLUTCH WASHER SPRING SET - New conical clutch washer springs offer more consistent clutch operation for maximum punch. When using the standard spring, after the clutch is set for the first time the spring becomes deformed over time and needs retightening. This new conical clutch washer spring set allows the clutch to retain its setting for a very long time without needing readjustment.

Change the springs in the 2-speed. Be sure to clean the 2-speed unit properly.

For the record, what i hadn't done, but have now, which fixed the problem pretty quickly, was adjust the shoe gap on the 2nd gear. (although marked important on the instructions - to refer to the set-up book).

thanks for all your suggestions to date.
