imho there is no "bad" play that you have to shim out even on older Xray offroad cars. Bulkheads wear so that diff gets some play at the diff outrive bearings. I've run XT8 with quite a lot of play there and no problems. But new bulkhead fixes that and don't too cost much. Arms on the Xray cars never brake or wear too much, only bend after some time (long time) and go to U-shape or 8-shape. You just replace them. I use the stock plastic hingepin blocks. If you tighten the "woodscrews" and hingepins too tight you loose the play. Its always wise to have some play there. The same thing with the outer hingepins at uprights. So no need to add more shims there either ![]() Ball-links have some play in them even when new but they wear really slow. Even after running the car for more than a year they are still is ok! So I can't think of ANY place you can take away the play because even used car doesn't get too much play anywhere ![]() I've thought about shimming the caster block inserts a bit because they do have some extra play in them. So maybe this is the only place I could think of ![]() We run the cars in very different conditions and climates. If you build the car without any play at +15C in your garage and then go racing in +50C then I bet you have many places binding. And then there is the dirt and mud and... Lets see what others do. |
