Hi. I've just read Ryan's set-up sheet: What is drilled shoes (clutch), and what is the bennifit? Cheers |

I could only guess. But you normally drill shoes to make them lighter which will make the clutch snappier. |

Ehmmm ok. Thanks ![]() I really don't understand it, because you can just use different springs, instead of attemt to make the shoes lighter - and make all the shoes weight the same... perhaps ![]() |

Shoes and springs work in combination - same springs with lightened shoes will engage later and more harshly (is that a word?!) Then you get into different grades of aluminium for the shoes and you can vary the amount of slip for a given spring rate. I would guess he's experimented and found a setup he particularly likes for the tracks where he races. I know most folks over here like the stock setup of 1.71 shoes and hard springs |

The clutch setup I finally liked the best was 2 drilled 1.71g shoes and 1 stock shoe with 2 X-hard springs on the drilled shoes and 1 hard on the stock shoe. It was really smooth, but it had A LOT of 'bite'. Ryan likes his car very responsive and the drilled clutch shoes definitely make the clutch very responsive. |

Thanks champs. Appreciate it. Can any of you post a picture of a drilled shoe? Another thing: On page 34 in the HUDY Off-road & Truggy Set-up Book they write about Trailing and Leading shoes. Do you ever drive with Leading shoes? Cheers |

googled a bit... I think you can screw in additinal weight into the holes on these shoes: You could also make 2 or 3 smaller holes. |

Those should be associated clutch shoes and yes they should fit, but when we tested them, we didn't really like them. I would snap a pic of the shoes I drill for myself and Josh, but I wind up throwing them away. |
