Post subject: | excessive play in pinion duel 13x19 bearings |
evrytime I take apart my car for a cleaning(every other weekend) there is a ton of play front back of the 2 13x19 pinion bearings in the diff case. Anyone else experiencing this? I tend to believe those 3 little set screws are backing out a little. Is there a solution to this. I blew my 1st diff last weekend and I believe it was from the play. With that extra play front to back dust dirt sand etc make there way into that little space then get forced into the outer most bearing causing it to seize then fail then spin in plastic and ultimately melt that little lip until the whole cvd bearing assenly is ejected. I really want to get this fixed. I love this car enough that I have 2 kits and enough parts to build a 3rd but I need to be able to resolve this issue of blowin those 13x19 bearings to smitherines. apologize, I was actually able to catch it 3 times peviously but I finally got caught out there. This is not a one time incidence for me. Thanks. I revived 1 suggestion of super duty heavy axle grease around openeing to stop anything from getting in the diff. And currently I am trying to find a dust boot configuration for the case. But ultimately I need to figure on how to stop the excessive play. Thanks again for any help. |

use the search function, theres a couple of threads about it. you can smear a cotton bud with superglue and wipe around the clean diff casing where the 2nd bearing sits and let the glue dry before fitting the bearing, this gives a tighter fit for the bearing. dont back the 3 screws off..this just lets the bearing spin in the housing, problem is the bearing has no shoulder to sit against, coupled with the play means the bearing can cock to one side,i made some alloy spacers to go between the bearings and this locks the 2 bearings togther meaning no more slop viewtopic.php?t=8192&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=60 |

Good development that Dave, Tim made some ally ones for us and no more slop. Its nice to be able to tighten the screws up properly too. |
