| Post subject: | Problems with XT8 clutch system |
The past two weeks I've been having trouble with the clutch nut sliding out or unscrewing itself and causing the clutches and clutch bell to move up and get out of mesh. No matter how much I tighten it, it still loosens itself up. Has this happened to anyone else? I really need some help here because I don't know what's causing it and today i lost a clutch bell and spur gear because of it. |

Try putting a drop of loctite on the threads before screwing on the nut. Use only red or blue loctite. This way you will be able to remove it if needed. |

I wrap a little thread tape around instead of loctite, and normally a blow of air from your mouth is enough to disslodge the tape when you remove it or the air compressor will for sure... |

Not to sound dumb, but are you sure you are getting it tight? When you tighten the nut, you are creating a pressed fit between the flywheel and flywheel collar. I understand that you don't want to strip out the threads on the crank, but it is possible that the nut feels tight, but in reality is still loose because of the flywheel collar(35 8540). I have had this start to happen also. When I put a flywheel on I tighten it down to where I think it is tight enough, then run it for a minute or so. I then take the engine back out and re-check that the flywheel nut is still tight. I have once had to tighten the nut down more after going through this procedure. Hope this helps. Kevin |
