I've been running the X Ray 1.71 g clutch shows with med springs and X Ray 14 tooth clutch bell set up leading edge. I have recently changed to Team Magic vented clutch bell to keep it cooler and extend the life of the bearings with good results.
However, I'm finding a clutchbell is only lasting the life of the clutch shoes even with weekly maintenance (filing the clutch shoes to remove burrs etc).
Is this normal?
What I have noticed is that the clutch shoes have a channel routed in them for the springs which conversely leaves 2 opposing channels in the clutch bell. The smaller strip seems to grind in quite deep compared to the other side. When running them leading edge it wears a lip close to the open end of the clutch bell.
When I ran the losi the clutch shoes had a hole drilled through the shoes for the springs rather than a channel which placed one whole flat edge on the clutch bell when it engaged for more even wear. Therefore, my clutch bell lasted much longer. (Although the shoes didn't!)
Two Questions;
1) Do you have maintain clutch bells as well with the dremel to keep them flat and smooth?
2) What other brand of clutch shoes will fit that does not have the spring channel and has a good life span?
