Post subject: | New XB8EC Build - Shock leaking oil badly - please help. |
I am working on a build of a new XB8EC and I just finished putting together the shock and I am having some problems with oil leak that just don't seem normal to me. I followed all of the directions in the build sheet and the addendum manual which pretty much coincided with my experience building shocks. I saw the bleed hole in the top screw cap of the shock and assumed there would be oil leaking out as I screw the cap on - which I experienced in about the right amount. But even after screwing the cap on tightly, I am not having a really bad problem with oil leaking out of the bleed hole just moving the shock back and forth. Based on the feel of the front shocks it seems just putting the spring in place and mounting it in the car almost all of the oil has leaked out. The rear ones are experiencing the same problem, but not as bad as the front. If I turn the shock upside down and move the shock back and forth oil pretty much squirts out of the bleed hole. Is this normal? I've read other posts about people having their oil last for up to an hour - based on other brands of cars I own I've never heard of oil leaking out during a run. Please let me know what I am doing wrong. Thanks. |

So, I solved my own dilema. Guess it makes sense sometimes to walk away and re-visit your problem in a little bit. I didn't realize the there was a notch in the shock cap that had to line up with the top shock mount piece. Re-built all four shocks lining up all of the notches correctly and now there is now abnormal bleeding of the oil just compressing the shocks by hand. |

Have you put the shock bladders in? as its a bit of a worry that when you turn it upside down it leaks. Have you tightened it up too tight and split the bladder. |

Yep - bladders were in, it just wasn't a tight seal as the notches weren't lined up on the shock cap as per my above post. |
