everyone seems to have missed the point for mounting the shocks like that

to fit the big bore shocks onto the car in the conventional manner is not possible due to the diameter of the bottom spring retaining cup!
you would have to either grind nearly all the way through the arm or have a longer ball end with a shorter spring sitting on a higher cup which would be no use as the arms would be weak or you would lose loads of travel!
the simplest solution ie without having to retool for new supension arms etc is to mount the shocks on a standoff/bracket that bolts into the existing arm using the existing holes. to counter this & keep the shocks working at the correct angles you then need to move the top mounts in by the same amount.
if you draw an imaginary triangle between the hingepin & both ends of the shock in both applications you can see the triangle should be pretty much the same only tipped in towards the centreline of the car
so although it looks like the shocks are running at a much shallower angle in reality they're not far off what we're already running :!:

I am not sure if you guys have noticed also that the rear arms are shorter than what we are currently using. Take a look at the rear toe block, it is much wider.

Nice catch Daryl! The arms look more like the XT8 arms as well. Come on XRay! Give us something to chew on!

Mario, have you guys tried a more centered engine placement? Is it all it's cracked up to be? How about a transverse mounting a la 1/8 onroad cars. That way, engine torque could be utilized to plant the rear tires. Not only that the engine could be mounted in the center line of the chassis.

Heck maybe a more robust version of a 1/8 scale onroad? Tweaked for offroad use. Lengthen and thicken the arms and shocks. Whatever else the software tells you to do ;)

I understand your points regarding spares whitey, but what makes companies like xray so great is that they are constantly looking to improve upon the platform they already have.

I'm sure many of the parts will still be interchangeable when they do bring out the latest version of the buggy, but as technology changes and with more experience it is only right they should bring out newer, more refined versions of their cars. The EC was only released this year, and I suspect we wont see a new version until the same time next year (much to my dismay!).

On another note, why would they want to give away any news regarding the release of a new buggy? If they stated they were planning to bring out a new version of the XB8 in say 3 months, they would probably lose out on 80% of sales for that period as most people would hold out for the newest version.

Whatever happens, I for one can't wait to get my hands on the version of the car. With xray changes to a design aren't a way of them getting another load of sales; it's a way of giving racers an improvement to their existing car.

Post subject:  Not really

Here is a great marketing tool, instead of coming out with the new version, how about coming out with the conversion 3 months before the actual new version hits the streets. Ok so you then sell a boat load of conversions then you sell a bunch of acutal kits. The fact probally is that you dont sell that many cars or buggys when your buggy has been realeased for 6 months. Plus unfornately I know for a fact that here in OHIO not many people are running XRAY. I am the lone person sometimes on the track actually running XRAY especially in the higher mains. It is getting to be a LOSI and MUGEN world here in OHIO. Ok lets do something about it. Lets make a car that will handle the rough sections and the US tracks not a care that is called the European Champion, no one in OHIO cares if the car is the EUROPEAN CHAMP they just want to be the local champ and right now that guy is one wearing a T-Shirt that says EIGHT. What are we waiting for lets compete. Plus the Associated is kicking but and is new and exciting and it says go USA all over it. Lets lose the cross the pond attitude and get back to TEAM XRAY

I have to agree with a lot of what robknasel says. In order to breakthrough into the US market and take some of the market share from the US companies just stick to non-region specific names. If anything make the next one XB1 then 2 then 3 and so on. Or mabyve XB8 Spec 1 then 2 etc. Only until the buggy wins the Worlds could you attach a suffix on there; the coveted WC.

I really think that you should greatly lengthen the front shocks and go to the 16m.m. ? piston with 5 or 6 holes both straight and conical with an option for a mix of straight and conical holes on the same piston. Like 2 straight holes with 3 conicals etc. The rear shocks could also use some additional length. And larger and longer springs should also be considered.

Anything that will help the buggy and it's truggy brother to float over the rough stuff. Add some steering, a planted rear end while accelerating, the legendary XRay durability, sell them for a competitive price and they WILL sell in the USA and take some market share away from the US companies.

Build it and they will come! :D
