I use motorcycle oil filter oil, cleans up with water. big bottle lasts a long time for little RC car filters. No nasty chems.

I to use Honda air filter oil and they sell a cleaning powder detergent with it that cleans the foams perfectly to white again.

A bottle of each will last you a long time and its the best I have ever tried, the oil says its extra tacky and trust me it is.

As for my method I oil both inner and outer for the reason being that if you dont then what are you prefiltering?

Secondly you will wash too many times and break the foam down but how do you know when? Well with an oiled prefilter that is broke down you will begin to see dirt collect on the inner filter indicating its had its life and time to trash both and start over. If you wash both and wash too many times where then will the dirt end up before its too late?

Any way oil both and wash only the prefilter leaving the inner intact and sealed to the filter housing. I use grease on the butt and face plates along with a bead of silicone around the foams edge to seal it to the plates lip.

I have noticed that with a buggy, as opposed to my other RC's, fuel spits into the filter neck and makes it into the inner filter. This causes the aluminum filter brace to color the foam a tinge of black. So lately I have been washing the inners but if I ever see actual dirt on them I toss and start over.


PS RB foams and filter housing and the Honda oil system works great. I have no swelling or anything wierd like that. The detergent even cleans the Mobil 1 grease off the foam that I use to seal it to the plates.
