It doesn't matter how far apart the ball links are, just make sure the servo horn is straight up and down (90 degrees in relation to the chassis). If you do this (start from perpendicular) it will ensure that the steering throw is consistent when turning from left to right (e.g. turn the wheel left 20% on the radio and it turns the wheels 20% to the left on the car and the same to the right, where as if the servo horn isn't straight up and down, you may turn the wheel to the right 20% on the radio and they go 25% to the right on the car, and then turn it 20% to the left on the radio and they go 15% to the left on the car).
