Post subject: | Clutch bell problem |
I have now had two clutchbells that have snapped one tooth off. Both have happened at different times on the track. Once was on a landing while using the one peice mount and the aluminum front and rear braces. The other one was going down a sweeper and using the plastic rear brace. It shouldn't be chassis flex and my gear mesh is set properly. Any suggestions? It's kind of expensive to keep replacing these clutchbells and I'd like it not to happen in the middle of a race. Thanks |

Hi, May I assume you set gear mesh correctly and the steel has no problems. If you have used one piece engine mount, any braces setting should not cause the clutch bell to strip. I don't have this problem so far luckily. Can't really offer you a solution. Regards Joaquim |

Strange. I've worn out a couple bells in the distant past but never snapped a tooth off. I have my mesh set pretty close and have used the alum braces/optional eng mount since inital assembly. How does the spur gear look?, did you find either of the brace sets or engine mount loose when you found the tooth snapped off? |

I've broken spur gears, but never a clutch bell. I broke a spur last week because the screw in the back of the radio box came out and the radio tray flexed up; brake linkage hit the spur, kaboom! |

I wonder if this is a follow up snag to the old Spur tooth thing, possibly now the spur is solved the problem has moved on to the Clutch bells. Now I've never lost a tooth off of an Xray bell simply because I never used one, I always run with the bells from the Hyper range. Though I wonder about one thing. What surface are you running on? It it loose dirt by any chance? |
