heard on the vine different folk talkin about xray developin a new type of diff ? for xb8 anybody else heard this rumour

if so share the info sounds good

I could envision a Hudy steel diff cup with 6 spider gears, (slobber, slobber :twisted:

) but then you are adding weight to the drivetrain bigtime. Externally adjustable diff is a cool idea, kinda like a ball type, but then you add the potential for problems.

I think the stockers work fine so long as you service them regularly. it's a proven design, but there is always room for improvement.

from what i can gather (people are being understandably tight lipped about these at the moment) they are not Torsens but are similar in operation to the Kyosho TCD's of old, more of a powerlock design than anything else! very free off power for good turn in then lock up under power to pull out of the corners!

i've even seen different crown wheel sizes which i would assume are to "overdrive" the front axle :twisted:

i meant the big gear that drives the whole diff, the part thats driven by the bevelled pinion in the gearbox that is turned by the centre driveshafts

ie "crown & pinion" type drive

saw one marked "XRAY Active Diff" "38" the other week :twisted:

Fortheir XXXS and XXX4, Losi has been doing this for awhile. They have three different sizes. Small, Medium, and large, all seperated by one tooth I beleive. Most people didn't play around with this in my area but it's a great idea.

If XRay did something like that, it opens a whole new window for race tuning.

Sounds like x-ray is getting ready to release a truggy b/c isn't this what K did on their truggy. Smaller spur gear and larger crown, sounds promising.
