Is this a good engine for the XB8R kit? I read that the OS engines have a longevity issue, is this one of these model engines? Thanks for answers -Grayalf

If you get one, buy some BOCA bearings and change the front and rear bearing out before you ever even start the engine. It'll save you a lot of probable hassle ;). VZ-B VSpec is an awesome engine, just has issues with the bearings.

What issue that would prompt me to change the bearings on a brand new engine? That seems a little drastict... is it going to blow apart with the factory bearings??? Grayalf

The truth is that quite a few people have had bearing issues and it has been more than usual. However, the overwhelming majority do not. I have been running the VSPEC for two years and haven't had any problems whatsoever with bearings.

I know of quite a few people still running stock bearing V-Spec's with no problems. I do, however, know of at least 6 people here locally that have had the rear bearing go out at just about the 1 1/2 - 2 gallon mark. I know Chad Bradley recommended swapping the bearings right from the get go. I would spend the extra $30 or so and get at least a BOCA rear bearing before you ever start it up. Just my .02...

Have about 2 gallons through mine and no sign of any trouble, same on my brothers one. Is a very fast engine and makes my car go incredibly well.

I have had my v spec for about 18 months and never had a problem with it. It's a fanastic motor.

I'm on my second V-Spec 6 Gallons on the first and 4 gallons on number 2. I also have no bearing issue but there is some play in the main bearing of the first engine and a bit in rear bearing of the second but no failures and no filings in the engine. I've always kept an eye on the rear bearing since I've heard of the failures. I clean out the engine after every run/race and examine the rear bearing to make sure I don't get a catastrophic failure. Looking back it's a bit tedious and may be worth the 30 bucks for something that is reliable but a clean engine runs better than one that's dirty
