a larger capacity battery will have the obvious advantages that brings BUT why you would want to move the mass of a large(r) battery out away from the centre line of the car

wouldn't the better handling of a lighter more centralised pack outweigh the benefit of having longer runtimes between charges?

my 1100 NiMh RX pack would go over an hour last summer! (i did three 20 minute finals back to back at one meeting) surely that is long enough for anybody?

this year i have an identical size & weight pack that is rated at 1400Mah so if needed can do at least the same again, plus if you had another pack charged & ready to go you could easily swap between finals anyway

You can use any servos with a lipo pack. What i would highly suggest is to use a voltage regulator (Novak makes one). It's a tiny module that hooks up between your lipo pack and receiver.What it does is regulate the voltage to your servos to a constant 6v. With a lipo that averages around 8 volts when first charged up you have a chance of burning up your servos.[/code]

That's a 3 cell 11.2 volt LiPO pack. I am using the GWS/BP2S1P1300 2 cell 7.4V pack. The voltage they quote is nominal so when fully charged a LiPO pack will produce 4.2V per cell typically making the 2 cell pack 8.4V and a 3 cell pack 12.6V.

Batteriesamerica.com make an even better battery for our application it's an 1800 maH LiPO pack #2LP853560P4h its dimensions are 60mmX35mmX17mm and weighs 65g. It's only a 3C pack but if used only as a RX pack you won't need more current draw capacity than it is capable of.

If I used 6V rated servos I would use a 6V voltage regulator but I am running 7.2V rated servos so I don't. Normally when one uses a 6V Nimh pack with a 6V servo the Nimh pack is above 7V when fully charged anyway. For sure you'll run a risk of frying the servo by running extra voltage. I read David Joor ran LiPO pack straight through no regulator with his KO 2366 6V servos. He did say that there was a risk of frying his servos and the manufacture would NOT warranty them.

A thought on voltage regulators. It limits the voltage the electronics gets to the what the rating is, 6V for what we'er talking about. However, the 2.4V cut off the top of a fully charged 2 cell LiPO cell (8.4V-2.4V=6V) is not reclaimed or saved but is lost. That is you are just cutting off 2.4V from your 8.4V battery. That is a major loss in efficiency.

Whatever you do..........DO NOT set your failsafe to brake on your spektrum and obviously dont set it to throttle. When you bind your nitro recievers bind them with your throttle at neutral.... very very important.
