Post subject:  Decrease power to rear wheels

I would like to decrease power to the rear wheels. my previous setup I was running in the diff 5 5 3 I noticed that on a hard packed loose track the rear wheels were getting too much power and wanting to act like a 2wd where the back end of the car wanted to come around. I have since tried 5 5 5 but have not had a chance to run on the track yet. to help discribe how much power was being transferred to the rear several times I took a jump and would land on the rear wheels could throttle and maintain a wheelie. I have since changed the diff to the 5 5 5 but was wondering if I moved in the right direction. I have searched the site but have not seen how or what I need to decrease rear power transfer. I may have a problem with the diff as the front diff has 5 and the rear diff has 5 and the rear definately stiffer on rebuild and inspection no noticable problems. I don't run o rings in any diff I have not noticed the problem before.

are you using xray diff oil?

if so it was tested to be closer to 777 on your car...even though its 5k

i use mugen 555 and i cant maintain a wheelie as you describe.

I think your wheelie is more a factor of the type of jump and how your car lands and how the ft springs push it back up. like bouncing a ball type of thing. I had the same thing one week and the next week after the track eroded from a rain storm it didn't happen anymore.

auto2 makes a great point.

Also the power to your rear diff is controlled by your center diff. Going lighter in the center will send less of the power rear wheels and more to the front. However, you may have just meant to say the rear is getting loose and not how to get less power to the rear wheels. In that case going up in the rear diff oil typically helps plant the car more onpower, so you may like that very much.

Thank you for the info I will try and let you know race is wed and thru this week

another question is with the difference in diff oil between mugen and xray is it the proportion that is run, what I am getting at is does it matter if I run 5 5 5 mugen or is the car going to handle different if I went to xray 5 5 5 due to the difference in oils. if it does going to have to order xray oil since no one locally stocks this.

so what should you use in your diffs for this xb8?? i ran 5,7,2 in my mbx5 and when i got on the gas out of a turn the rear got loose. the xb8 manual says 553. one more question. what is lighter 10,000 or 7000? the higher the number the heavier the oil? thats what i was thinking. also what wt oil and spring are you guys running. thanks
