Post subject: | 808 Diff Pinion Solution (08/09) Pictorial - by Udi |
A simpler and more current solution for those with older 808's, plagued with the poor design pinion/bearing. Thanks to 'mader' and 'extra' for the original solutions (and 'alain' for helping me with measurements), however this improves on both by using the standard bulkheads unlike extra's solution (less parts for you to buy), and without the requirement for a machined spacer like mader's (less parts to buy again, or less labour/hassle). It also uses a much bigger bearing which should be excellent for longevity. Parts used are below. All available on ebay. - Pinions: 808 '11 Spec - Driveshafts: MP9 (I used TKI2 WC) - Bearings: 8x19x6 (x4) - Shims: 8mm ID x 0.2mm thick (x4), 8mm ID x 1mm thick (x2) - The shims between the bearings can be customised to get the mesh correct. - The rear driveshaft was shortened 1mm at each end via grinding as visible in the picture. I believe a HB D8 rear shaft may be used if you don't want to grind anything. - This applies to the 08 and 09 kits with 19mm OD stock pinion bearings. Variations may be possible for '10 and 808E. Hopefully it'll be useful to someone in the future, I was happy with my old kit apart from this issue and it saved me buying a new one. Udi |
