Hi,

Trying to put together my 2010 spec 808 rear diff.
The diff is too close to the pinion and locks up the diff as the teeth engage so i have tried putting 2 of the small shims on the non bevel gear side to increase the gap and its not as bad but still i can feel the teeth biting together and there is no play.
I cannot fit any more shims in because i cannot get the internal pin in the outdrive if i put another shim in.
Any ideas? the front seems to be the same although not quite as bad as the rear.

Before you fully tighten the gearbox bulkhead make sure you push the diff across, as you could be clamping it tight on the gear mesh. Also double chech the pinion gear is fully home and the three screws holding it are tight. On all the kits I've built or maintained normally a .1 or.2 shim is used the bevel gear side only.

XRAY's gear boxes do fit together very tightly. I noticed on all of the 808s I have built, but this goes away after you run the car.

Just shim it to where it's just a little tight and go from there. Once you have a couple gallons on the car, re-shim the diffs you're good to go.

Cheers guys much happier with the front now, rear is still a little to close for my liking, but hopfully it will bed in nicley.

I race at Pendle, the setup you have is from 2008, i have been using this as a base for my car.
Would you change anything in particular in that setup for the 2010 spec car?
Or would it be a better idea to start with your more recent "Start point" setup as a base?

Just to add a little feedback about the diff mesh, 2 races in now after making sure the bearings were moved over in the casing, the are bedded in now very nicely with no grinding
