Hello all I run a 808 E and chipped 2 bevel gears.. I was never to happy with the play "in and out" on the center shaft/pinion gear.. what can I do ? stock up on pinion gears as they r cheaper than bevel gears and keep them fresh ? currently the bevel gear was old but, looked ok i did replace the pinion about 2 months ago and new bearings lastnight and it chiped again 2day.. rearend btw..

I've noticed it usually only happens when you have too much chassis flex. Center drive shaft will hit the pinion into bevel gear when chassis compresses. With standard Nitro setup I haven't yet managed to break one gear on Xray cars. Usually the E-conversions take away stiffness and make cars flex too much which cause problems like yours...

I bet it happened at rear and you are still using stock plastic chassis brace? First thing - upgrade it to aluminum one. Also check that your chassis plate isn't already bent very much.

It was a bit dusty... But I always kept everything as clean as possible...

I think the bearings were locked. But the metal protection was out of the bearing...

I'm thinking the bearing locked as the protection came out... Because, as the bearing locked, I supose it started rotating as a whole and it lead to melting the diff bulkhead block... The rear dust cover just melted and came off, and the CVD and pinion gear came out of the bulkhead about 2mm, loosing all contact with the rear bevel gear.

At least it didn't damage the bevel and pinion gear too much... :)

i am having the same problem.

After a gallon or sometimes less the bearing next to the dust cover locks, and it happens more often on the front transmision.

I am using grease to seal diff box when i hook it to the chasis son the only place that dust can come in is from the dust cover.

I mainly race in dusty conditions.
Also using hudy graphite grease to lubricate the gears. maybe it is to thick and with some dust in it lock the bearing.

Bren,

I need your confirmation on this, on the 09 and 10 kit with the aluminum collar spacer, do I fully tighten the 3 screws that hold the pinion bearing assembly or do I need to loosen it slightly as mentioned in the manual on page 10 and 11?

Mine is a 09 kit, I fully tighten the 3 screws but I feel that the outer race of the bearing still can rotate and grind against the 3 screws that are holding it in place and that can cause lots of heat and wear...

for the 09 car & now the 10 with the introduction of the spacer i tigthen all 3 screws fully, it should just lock the outer race of the bearing & in effect create one great big assembly rather than the 3 parts. If its still rotating its a good chance your geabox case is worn.

That is the solution to your problem .... take a look here first ...

viewtopic.php?p=90213&highlight=#90213

*** BEWARE OF BAD BULKHEADS ***

That is a hand made reinforcement to the rear bulkhead ... The problem comes within the high flexibility of the chassis after a big jump or so ... the rear center axle goes like U shape and start to vibrates .... on the end to the center diff you don't have a prob because is loose ... on the other end of the axle the vibration thrum the CVD end that is fixed pass to the pinion gear .... The bulkhead DON'T have the mechanical strength to hold the force and starts to vibrate (pinion with bearings) .... After that the pinion looses the messing to the crow gear and disaster is matter of seconds ...

Hope this helps
