XRAY - Model racing cars

I have been racing buggys for several years now and just recently picked up an EC. What I always wonder was during a long main, such as an hour, do you guys feel the diff oils feels like it is getting thinner in viscosity and changes the feel of the car. Would using a thicker viscosity compensate for these long races?.

The Xray drivetrain is the best in the buisness. Not to mention how well the diffs stay in tact with no leaking issues. If the main is an hour long, I would rather rebuild the diffs with new oils than running thicker and changing the feel of the car. I believe outside temperature would also be a factor in losing viscosity. An example would be shock oil. Here in so cal in the summer during a 95-100 degree race day, I personally go up 5 wt in shock oil. Other Pro's @ my local track, like Chad Bradley and Jeremy Kortz brought this to my attention.

that is very interesting to hear something like that. i think that is a very smart thing. would 5WT make that much of a difference with the temp? just curious as it does get that hot around here also. might have to give that a try.

It is very standard that the oil expands when it gets hot and also due the rotating action of the diff. For this reason it is strongly required that you fill in your diff maximum with 50% of the oil.
