XRAY - Model racing cars

Not convinced the 008 will appear in the BRCA details (no spec sheet details were taken) but at Bedworth this weekend Craig won the National U14 Stock championship with a 2nd & 1st. What a car! On a track which is quite different to what we are used to, the car was perfect really, with our normal chassis settings. Bedworth is more open and flowing than others we have raced at – we ended up with an FDR of 6.02 whereas we normally run about 6.7. During Saturday practice we used Ben Cosgrove’s Cotswolds setup sheet and stiffened the chassis and top deck. This seemed to be OK, marginal but probably had an edge. Back at the hotel, reviewing the day, Craig felt the rear was just a bit loose so not wanting to get into any major changes, the car was handling well, I set the chassis and top deck back to kit, my logic being this would induce some more overall grip.

Q1 saw the rear noticeably loose, quite possibly due to the control tyres, RP30s, which we couldn’t run in earnest during practice (availability and our choice). I laid the rear shocks down one position but Q2 was on a dampish drying track and our Q3 was rained off. So we couldn’t play with anything else on the rear grip. But the car handled flawlessly in the finals. I will get around to posting a setup sheet but it really was pretty much kit with reduced front droop. We did at one stage in practice try upping the spring rates 1 rating all-round but that was a disaster so we went back to kit springs, as were the team drivers I later found out.
