Swanny & Tonyv,

Thanks for the replies. I really appreciate it and for a newcomer such as myself, this is a big boost for my motivation.

Swanny,
Yes, the 3.5r is an insane motor. i did not realize that it was THAT fast. no one talked me into buying it as it was a rookie mistake for wanting a fast motor for my car. I also agree that making consistent laps around the track is a very good practice for me to help improve my lines and skill.

Tonyv,
There is a lot of useful infomation on the setup book and I have now started to read it more intently. But, it is too much information for me to take in and some of the sections in the book is still a bit confusing for a beginner. I shall stick to your advice and do the changes in setup one thing per run. Maybe by doing so, I will be able to see the diferences more clearly.

Currently, handling wise, I think I have done well in getting the car on the track and making laps without crashing out or anything. I'd made notes on everything and so far, I have made more than 20 successfull laps around the track without any major crashes with my stock motor. Needless to say, at the end of the day, I'm very pleased but I know there still a lot more that my car can offer.

Anyway thanks guys for the advice.

bloodlust, I recommend you try setup changes in these areas:

moving upper shock links in and our, front and rear (one at a time!)
trying different droop amounts, more and less, front and rear (one at a time)
trying slightly different springs, more and less, front and rear (one at a time)

Those are some of the easiest changes to make during a race day. Some of the next ones to try are anti-roll bars, rear toe, and ackermann.

adamg,
thanks man!! even for a beginner i guess those changes are easy to do on the car. i will surely play around with these during my next outing to the track.

Anyway, i just got back from my local hobby store and got myself some option parts for my car. Things that i bought are c-hubs (2,4 and 6 degree caster), 96T spur gear, and rear composite upright 1 degree toe in. i was thinking of getting myself some set of springs but i'll have to pass until my next paycheque ;-).

Hi Bloodlust, you will learn quickly don't worry. Just put in some practise and testing. But remember this. If you consider that you will probably loose 5 seconds by coming off the track and you are .5 sec a lap faster than your friend, if you come off the track twice, mathematically you will loose. So concentrate on having a comfortable car, staying on the track whilst racing and then focus on tuning and optimum performance.

But yes its fun to experiment :D
