Hey guys, i was wondering if there could be any possible performance increase by uping the charging amps on a gp 3300, i currently charge them at 5 amps with zero delta peak, i am getting my trintiy discharge tray this week and i will be dead shorting them, is there any charge rate i should use especialy in this situation? any help apreciated.

I use SMCs and according to their websight they recommend 6amp charge with a .05 peak detect. I use Integy Octane2 tray and dead short them with a 10ohm resistor. I solder the resistor while they are still on the tray to insure 0.0v.

Yeah Equalising and discharging has always been a bit of a mystery to me. I used to discharge and equalise every pack after a run but I started to notice a decline in my cells performance so now I leave my cells with charge in them after a run and just recharge them next time I want to use them. Then I discharge and equalise every 5-6 meetings. My cells haven't seemed to fall off like the other ones did.

Your veiw on this would be interesting Tony??

Sam

Everything I have read including Novak and Orion and Trinty says Dead shorting is bad for Ni-mh Batts. And also there is no memory retention meaning you dont have to dis-charge or use the tray with Ni-mh.

I use the novak tray down to .01, but do not dead short isn't that stuff for Nicads.?

Atually almost every racer at my track ds's they're batts and there is a significant increase in voltage, at the sacrifice of a small amount of run time, takes a few races for the batteries to break in though, rc car action did a article on it, brian kinwald has been doing it for a few years now and his batteries still perform at peak level.

SMC recommends 6.0 amps with 35mv delta peak, so that is what I charge with, works great! If I have time then I re-peak the battery before my run. For discharging I use a Novak Smart Tray.

Hi this is Matt from the USA i been racing on and off for 15 years and im still learning about battery care . What i do is after the run i discharge the pack at 30 amps and let it cool down then put then away thill i get home then i tray then on a trinty 2.5 tray .When the lights go out i put them in my box and have them ready for the next race ther i but on the novak tray and discharge them to .01 on the volt setting . When done i charge at 5.5 at 10 milvolt cut off i have never dumped at this setting and it works for me so i envite you to try this thill then have a happy holodays from the good old USA C-YA

I personaly discarge my packs withe about 2A an put them on the robitronic equalzier for next race.
I charge with 5.5 A to 48C (Clesius) and I try to use them as hot as possible. I noticed the punch to fade away by letting them cool down under ca. 45C (Celsius)
Whats about cutting off by temperatur in generell???
