What are the down sides to look for when setting the ride height lower? Most setup sheets has 5mm to 5.5mm for the ride height. The track I run on is an indoor asphalt track that is smooth. How low is to low? |

On asphalt generally 5mm is considered the lower bound although in some cases drivers go as low as 4.5mm if they are running relatively hard springs. With foam tyres on carpet the lower bound is 4mm and then you have to be running very hard springs. The problem you will run into if you are running relatively soft springs combined with a low ride height (even 5mm can be much too low) is that during cornering the chassis will bottom out due tp chassis roll. This will cause the car to loose grip and have unpredictable handling problems ranging from understeer to oversteer and even both in the same corner. Not something you want. |
