Post subject: | Tyres |
I have been to my local indoor track a couple of times and seen people who use tyre additive fileing and sandpapering their tyres. I was wondering if anyone could tell me any information how to get the best out of your tyres, and to what end they would be doing this |

Now there's a simple question for which there are many not so simple answers. How to treat rubber tyres is a very difficult subject, not helped by the fact that different types of tyres need to be treated differently. For now I am just as interested in the answers that people will post here as you are. As to why people use sandpaper (usually with a dremel) on their tyres, I do know the most common reason. New tyres usually have a line of flash right in the middle of the tyre, i.e. on the running area. Especially top drivers feel this makes the tyres handle inconsistently until they are run in to the point that the flash is gone. To prevent problems in the first few laps on new tyres they therefore get rid of the flash by sanding it away. |

thanks for that Tony. The tyres we use at the track are Take Off cs22 so hopefully this will help me a mere novice like me to understand some of the reasons. cheers |

i have used CS22, 27, and 32 tires for years, and personally i dont do anything to mine. I have tried cleanign them, tryied different addative, the onyl thing i have found that works at all, is heat ( and only on cold days ) tire warmers are your friend. Other then that, i rub the dust and crap off with my fingers, and wait for the next round. |
