Post subject:  Carpet setup for T1

I have adjusted my car to be the same as the recommended carpet setup for the T1. Its great loads of offpower steering with a minimal amount of understeer which is exactly spot on as it was oversteering on my old setups.

My only problem is on power it oversteers a lot. I have reduced the size of pinion as mine was far too big and put orange springs on the back.

I was also thinking of reducing front downstop a little.

P.S. my track is too small for the front one-way so i don't have that on. Also my front anti dive is 0 degrees and wheelbase are shorter to accomodate this.

Any minor changes that you think will help ? I haven't got the flexi deck on their either yet. Lexan guide (Not sure how to make this up and fix it as i didn't get one, should i have?)

Thanks

Hi Col

Thats exactly what I did as well, set the car up as per the suggestions and it was oversteer city.

Talking about it on another thread.

Is it simply that the chassis is hitting the ground during hard acceleration?

You should be able to tell - if the handling is good when feeding the throttle in when coming out of corners but very loose when going straight to full power.

The simplest fix to this is to raise the ride height a little.

Could have been, but I was getting oversteer after about four feet of good drive. I think the car was rolling over as it built up speed and may have bottomed out as the cornering force built up.

What sort of gear ratio is recommended for carpet, running a stock motor on a FK?

We've just gone indoors and I was running 7.72 (23/96) and the motor got VERY hot. Straight is 20m, lap times are around 9secs.

As I go to a smaller and smaller pinion the motor is moving away from the chassis, so I'd like to get spurs bigger than 96, any idea who makes them?

I run 20/93 (8.23) on an indoor carpet track in Chesterfield.
Our average laptimes are around 14-15 seconds, my motor normally comes of realatively cool compared to most other peoples.

Have a look at http://www.precisionracingsystems.com for the spur gears

I run my T1R with the old pulleys at 9.71 (21/96) with a BRM stock.

Microtech racing can supply larger spur gears, but you need to drill them to get the screw holes in the right place. I have a Kimborogh spur with loads of holes in which I bolt to the spur and use as a template.
