I have just fitted new foam tyres (65mm dia) to my T2 but cannot get the front ride height below 7mm. I am using violet springs, I do not want to reduce the tyres diameter, any ideas how I can lower the car to 5mm to match the rear please?

the only thing I can think off is that you look for a shorter front spring !

Just a thought, you did use the short shock ends in the kit and not the long ones?.

alberto, how will smaller diameter tyres help with traction?

less foam allows for more side bite.. Alot of foam will allow the car to push... simillar to big truck tires as apposed to low profile sport car tires... I'm sure some else can explain it better the I

Keep in mind that as the foams diameter reduces, and you change the shock spring collars to maintain ride height, that the car will react differently. The difference between 3mm worth of diameter is noticeable, but not too bad. This is due to the fact that the angle of your arms, and subsequently the cars front and rear roll centers, will change as you adjust the spring collars. With tall tires, the roll centers will be very low. As you adjust the spring collars to maintain ride hieght for smaller diameter tires, the roll centers will raise up.

If you start with your foams above 60mm and still run them at 55-56mm, then your car will handle much differently over the life of the tires. I believe that is why most drivers start new sets at a 59-60mm diameter and run them down to 55-56mm. If you setup your car to run the best with 55.5-56.5mm diameter tires, then a 3-4mm increase for a new and trued down set of tires will make the car a tad tighter and slower in the corners at first. But the car will become faster as the tires wear down.

Here is my own tire usage process. I buy tires in bulk of at least 3 sets, but less often, and certainly not every week. I true down all sets to a 59.0mm (60.0mm for Jaco 2 stage) diameter and use them for practice during the week, or before qualifying, until they wear down to 57.5mm (58.5mm - 2stg). Then I use them for qualifiers until they wear down to 56.0mm (57.0mm - 2stg). At this ride height I keep them to run the mains, or even a qualifier where I need to set a fast pace.
