Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Former Ranger Ryan Callahan had two goals and an assist against his ex-team to spoil Martin St. Louis return to Tampa and help the Lightning to a 4-3 victory over New York. The pregame buildup was solely centered on St. Louis first game in Amalie Arena since the Lightnings all-time leading scorer requested and was granted a trade to the Rangers on March 5. However, it was Callahan -- the key player Tampa Bay received in the blockbuster swap -- who earned the nights First Star as St. Louis was held off the scoresheet. Steven Stamkos made quite an impact as well, notching a goal and two assists in the Lightnings fourth win in their last six outings, including two in a row by one goal. Ben Bishop finished with 16 saves in the triumph. Another one-goal game, said Stamkos. We hold on and find a way to win these games and thats a good trait to have. New York entered the anticipated matchup off shutout wins over Philadelphia and Montreal, but Henrik Lundqvist stopped just 25-of-29 shots and St. Louis was mostly a non-factor. Rick Nash did record a goal and an assist for the Rangers, with Mats Zuccarello and Dan Boyle also scoring in defeat. Callahan accounted for the first two of three consecutive Tampa Bay goals that erased a 2-1 deficit late in the opening period, during which St. Louis received a generally positive ovation from the home crowd as a video saluting his 12 1/2-year tenure with the Lightning was shown on the scoreboard. A double-minor penalty to Nash led to Callahans initial tally of the night, with the former Rangers captain crashing the net to re-direct a long drive from Jason Garrison 2:26 prior to the first intermission. Callahans second came midway through the second period off a pinpoint pass from Stamkos, who wheeled around the New York net to set up his teammate for a successful wrister in close that put the Lightning up 3-2. Boyle nearly tied it just seconds into the third with a blast that struck the post, but the Rangers later fell behind by two when Matt Carles point shot deflected off Kucherovs skate and trickled by Lundqvist with 10:22 to go. Nash got New York back within one when he turned a giveaway from Tampas Andrej Sustr into his 15th goal of the season with 7:11 left to play. Down two goals obviously were going to take some chances, said Boyle. You can take some risks. But the Lightning held on for the two points. Stamkos quickly put to rest any hopes of a third straight Rangers shutout, with the star center setting off a flurry of first-period goals by rifling a shot over Lundqvists left shoulder on a Tampa power play just 5:25 into the contest. New York answered just over 3 1/2 minutes later when Sustr fanned on a clearing attempt, creating a 2-on-1 between Nash and Zuccarello in which Bishop had no chance to turn away the latters attempt. The Lightning took a too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty less than two minutes after Zuccarellos score, with the Rangers converting the chance on Boyles one-timer off a Derek Stepan feed. Game Notes Callahan also had two goals in the first meeting between the clubs since the trade, a 5-1 Lightning win at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 17 ... The Lightning are now 13-0-0 following the trade when Callahan scores at least one goal ... Nashs assist on Zuccarellos marker was the 300th of his career ... Lightning forward Alex Killorn extended his career-best point streak to six games with an assist on Callahans second goal ... Boyles goal was the free- agent pickups first point as a Ranger ... Bishop improved to 7-0-0 all-time against New York. .com) - The fading Ottawa Senators have a chance to make up some ground in the playoff race on Tuesday night as they play host to the New York Rangers. . -- New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft wanted to keep Logan Mankins with the team for a long time. http://www.blackfridayairmax.com/.Y. - Carey Price had an early feeling that one goal might be enough to settle the latest matchup between his Montreal Canadiens and longtime Original Six foe, the New York Rangers. . -- Houstons All-Star tandem of James Harden and Dwight Howard refused to let the Rockets give in to fatigue. . The Redblacks are taking on the Edmonton Eskimos in their second regular season game Friday night. Catch the game live on TSN as the back end of a doubleheader starting at 10pm et/7pm pt.The Edmonton Oilers are winless on the young season and will be hard pressed to get on the board against the Los Angeles Kings with two regulars out of the lineup tonight. Head coach Dallas Eakins told reporters Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will not play for the Oilers against LA. Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins missed practice Monday with undisclosed injuries. Neither injury is thought to be serious. Oilers fans will get their first look at Darnell Nurse however, as the rookie will make his NHL debut tonight. The Kings meanwhile, aim to secure their second victory of the season and seventh in a row over the Oilers. The Oilers are winless on the young season, losing their home opener to Calgary on Thursday before suffering a 5-4 shootout setback to Vancouver on Saturday. Edmonton failed to hold a trio of two-goal leads, including a 2-0 advantage in the first period, and allowed the game-tying goal at the 7:06 mark of the third frame. Viktor Fasth, who ended with 39 saves, was then beaten by Chris Higgins for the lone shootout tally. We played good during most parts of the game, said Fasth. We got a lot of penalties today. Its a tough team to beat when youre spending that much time in the box. Defenseman Brad Hunt scored his first NHL goal and Mark Arcobello added another first-period tally for the Oilers, while Nail Yakupov also scored and Jesse Joensuu tallied shorthanded. Teddy Purcell and David Perron both had two assists for Edmonton. Purcell, though, was one of three Edmonton players to not skate on Monday along with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle. All three are day-to-day as head coach Dallas Eakins termed them banged up. The Oilers, who visit Arizona on Thursday, did recall forward Bogdan Yakimov from the minors, so there appears a chance at least one of those skaters could miss tonights game. It is unknown if Fassth or Ben Scrivens will start for Edmonton in net.ddddddddddddFasth is 1-3-0 with a 2.97 GAA and .906 save percentage in four meetings with the Kings. Scrivens, meanwhile, began last season with the Kings before getting traded to the Oilers following the emergence of Jones. He has faced Los Angeles just once before and stopped 46-of-50 shots faced in a loss. The Kings began defense of their Stanley Cup championship with losses to San Jose and Arizona (overtime) before rolling past the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 on Sunday. Tyler Toffoli, Anze Kopitar, Jeff Carter and Tanner Pearson lit the lamp for the Kings, while Martin Jones made 29 saves in his first start of the season. I thought we did a good job in front of both nets actually, said Jones. They did a good job of getting bodies and throwing pucks towards the net and we always seemed to come up with the puck in front of our net and in front of their net too, and bang, a couple goals. The Kings won the opener of a six-game homestand and have claimed four straight and six of their past seven as the host against the Oilers. They also won all four meetings last season and have taken 12 of the last 15 encounters overall. Jonathan Quick figures to face the Oilers tonight in net and has an excellent 11-1-4 mark against them in 16 starts, posting a 1.53 goals against average and .940 save percentage.
