XRAY - Model racing cars

Hi....I've run into a small (I think) problem.

Just finished building the car and run some tests. When the car is accelerating in a straight line all is fine. When I turn the wheels either side the wheels start vibrating and it sounds like something is rubbing up against another part causing the wheels to stop running.

I've got 3 degree caster alu c hubs and alu wheel hubs. I've done a visual check and I can't see any parts touching the belt and the wheels don't touch anything when turning either.

Please help.

this will just be the chatter that happens with all the cars, i have it also, try sticking a shim onto the c hub so that the steering knuckle has no play in it wen u turn, i have dun this and it has reduced the vibrations lots.

Thanks Housey. I'm not sure it's just chatter as it sounds pretty bad when the wheels are on. I think it still does it with the wheels off but it's less evident. There is hardly any play on the uprights, at least not enough to do what it's doing. I've taken the motor off and run it with my hand with the wheels turned and it runs very smoothly. Them moment I put the motor on and run it with the wheels turned it sounds like the whole thing is just about to break up.

There has to be a solution, I mean, I had a £100 tamiya that didn't do this so on a car this well designed I don't think this should happen.

Just reduce your EPA. It's a known issue.
It's a sort of inbalance of the axles - wheel connection.

its mainly the inside wheel that has lots of slop wen u turn, ill take a pic of my car to show u exactly where i put the shims.

at first i thought my whole car was gona shake itself to bits aswell, but it isnt half as bad once the car is actualy on the track and ur going round.

I am doing it on a stand, when I take the wheels off the car doesn't seem to do it at all but when the wheels are on and I turn the car starts shaking violently and the belt vibrates loads.

I'd appreciate if you could post the pic so I could see and also if you could indicate where I could add shims I would appreciate it.

If anyone else knows how to get rid of this problem please post.

Its exactly what Joe P said

I take it you are running the spool? It happens on most cars (more when running the spool) Just adjust the 'lock' (EPA) on you transmitter so at full lock the steering hubs are just away from the C hubs.

Its easy to do, at full lock there should just be a little bit of play between the Steering block and the C hub.You should be able to fell it if u move the wheel left to right at full lock.

This will solve it! It wont get rid of all the noise but afterall no TC's are slient!

Ok thanks. Will try adjust EPA and add some shims. Just need to know where to add these shims Housey...

Anything else to minimise this effect would be greatly appreciated.

if u ask me this left to right movement is exactly the problem, cos this left right movement allows the steering knuckles to vibrate, if u just put a shim on the c-hub so that there is no left right movement the steering knuckle has no chance of vibrating, so the vibration overall is greatly reduced, i know it works cos iv stuck sum shims onto my c-hubs and now even at full lock there is VERY little vibration at all.

like i said, 2mora ill take a picture and post it in this thread so that people can see wot i mean.
