Post subject: | Carbon fiber issues |
Hello just a foreword: I'm old enough (in both, racing and age) to have used carbon fiber chassis since the introduction of this material in this hobby. Also, I've met carbn fiber for job reasons (waterjet technology) several times. This put me in the condition to "puzzled about".... Issue: De-laminating. Over my 04, I've used an XRC chassis "all around" since the very begin. After few month and the usual scuffs, one sunday it happens that the front nose "open" and the fibers goes delaminated. Yes, it was cyano all around (altough this was the first time for me doing so....never done it before on any given chassis, regardless the brand...) Nothing too bad, some ciano glue settle the problem for the race, but the chassis was gone. A friend of mine, again with an 04, has seen his chassis delaminated in the rear portion (standard chassis). Yesterday. A fellow racer show with proud his brand new 05, straight out the box. After a hit we found a layer of his chassis on the track. Almost all the front area has been separated from the main chassis (about 100 mm). You can see the CF not being permeated by resin in the portion. All this experiences made with delamination, coupled with "glued" screws (never happen with other chassis used, regardless the brand) lead me to suspect that Xray carbon fiber has definitely some touble. Any comment will be apreciated, thanks Giorgio |

I've been running the FK05 for a good 2 months now and have switched to a 2mm chassis for a month and I have not seen any delaminating. If you're experience such problems, you might want to look into ride height and body roll. |
