Post subject: | Aluminum shocks vs stock shocks |
Hey Guys, I bought a T4 used and it came with 3 hole inserts. I wanted to stiffen the shock more but then realized I didnt have any 2 hole inserts, they are bigger the then stock ones. So I decided to build the stock shocks, but then realized that after they were completely built the total length was 63mm, when I installed them the car had no shock movement. When I compared the stock to aluminum the stock ones were significantly longer. Im not sure what happened here?? Do the shock shafts come in different lengths? Did the guy had to upgrade the shock tower in order to accommodate the shorter aluminum ones and not give the stock shock tower?? Im kinda at a loss here and not sure how to make them any shorter? Any help would be great. thx |

The T4 series should all have the same short shocks |

The 'stock' shocks on the T4 are short aluminium shocks. If you've got some plastic shocks, these are from the T3 and won't fit. You want the 4x1.1mm pistons in, so you'll need two sets of these: |

Well that explains everything... thanks guys. Since I have the 3 hole insert, could I just use something like glue and block 1 hole? Would this be really wrong to do? I guess the other options are to use stiffer springs and thicker oil. But I was really set on using a 2 hole insert. I have limited Xray support where I am and getting parts is hard and I just made an order so missed that. Thanks again for the help. |

why do you want to go so stiff? look at the set up sheets for advice on shock settings, can you post a pic of your shocks? you say the alu shocks are longer than stock,it should be other way around if you have t3 shocks which would have plastic bodies, good luck |

I felt the car to bouncy so wanted to change to 2 hole and a little thicker oil. Doesn't matter now, I actually just sold the T3... now on the hunt for a T4.... I know... after all this.. I go and sell it. Are aluminum shocks now a standard on kits? s |

So if the old springs will not work, what would be the length of the springs that will fit the aluminum shocks? |

what would be the ideal length of the overall length of the shock once built? |
