Post subject: | Setting the roll bars correclty |
Hi, Been rebuilding my car for the indoor season. I've noticed at the rear that the roll bar isnt set correctly, however i cant seem to fix it! Basically when i raise the left side the ride side raises (not equally compared to how much i raise the left side). However when i raise the right arm the left arm doesnt rise at all. Ive read about shortening the roll bar links, but i cant see how to do that on the t4. Could someone please explain to me! Many thanks, p.s Ive checked that the roll bar is flat out of the car on a table |

First of all check that both arms move freely and one is not stiffer than the other. |

Ok thanks. Both arms move freely e.g when raised they then fall back onto the droop screws with no obvious binding, they move at the same speed |

Try flipping the bar over to see if the problem swaps sides, if it does the RB is not flat you should be able to tweak it straight by hand, I have only ever found you can improve it and have never got both sides identical |

Ok, flipped the roll bar round and the problem is still on the same side. So I swapped the plastic. Mounts with the set screw in around. Problem is still on same side however the good side doesn't raise the other side up as much as it did before I swithced the plastic mounts around. I've also checked droop and they are the same both sides. |

Well that can only be a binding somewhere or highly unlikely but possible weight difference. Have you tried other RB's thicker, thinner? |

Hi. I almost had the same issue. Μy left wishbone was not lifting as high as the right one. The problem was solved when I trimmed the plastic edge of the upper suspension link to the side that faced the bulkheads. Hope that works. |

Are you doing this with the hubs and driveshafts removed? I always remove them when detweaking rollbars. If its still doing this then either you have binding in the arms or the rollbar links, or the bar is bent. Flipping the bar over won't solve the problem if the bar is bent; the same side will still be high. I adjust the bar links until both sides lift at the same point. I figure up to one turn on the links is okay. Any more than that and there's something badly wrong. |

Have been trying with the hubs and drive shafts on. Will try again with them off. I tried flipping the roll bar to make sure that the bar itself wasn't tweaked. will try raising the link and see what happens. car always did this, I never really thought it was a problem. You can tell I'm a setup newbie! |

Good news! They both now lift! Had to move one of the arm mounts inwards so that more of the bar was through. Seems to work! Thanks for your help |
