Post subject:  Rear anti-roll bar issue

I firstly remove both wheels and dampers and then I lift the wishbones. When I lift the left one, the right one lifts as well. When I lift the right wishbone the left one stays down.

I have checked both wishbones and they are not binding, they move up and down freely.
I also checked that the anti-roll bar moves freely and drops by each own weight without having excessive play.
I have checked the antiroll bar and it is flat. I also tried connecting the anti roll bar the other way around (left side to right, right side to the left) and nothing changes. Problems remains the same.

I then tried removing the upper suspension links. Without the upper links, both wishbones lift at the same amount. When the upper links are removed there is no issue.
So I tried swapping the upper links (left link to the right, right link to the left) and the same problem again as before. I also made sure that both upper links move freely.

So I am pretty confused now. I have tried almost everything and the problem is still there. The only thing I haven’t tried is swapping the drive-shafts left to right which is next thing I am about to do.

Any ideas?

Was you using, during chassis building, the arm reamer?
Maybe suspension arms are not moving freely.

They move freely. That was one of the first things I checked.

Hi.

I almost had the same issue, but instead, my problem was that my left wishbone was not lifting as high as the right one.

The problem was solved when I trimmed the plastic edge of the upper suspension link to the side that faced the bulkheads. That should free everything.

Hope that works.

have you adjusted the 1.5 mm grub screw to stop the arb from lifting in the mount,it could be that their not set level and one side of the arb is lifting more than the other, good luck
cause other than that im stumped

Is it the 1.2 ARB?
Had the same issue with that on all my Xrays but go up to 1.3 or 1.4 and problem is gone, think the gauge is such that the slightest difference in arm movement can be seen, I've ended up tweaking the bar to equalise movement, not that I could tell on track as the layouts are different every time

You have to adjust the length of the anti-roll bar holders until they lift at the same time, which can be done by turning the grub screw.

If the upper links affect the lifting, then make sure that they are of the same length from left to right.

The ball ends are higher by .5 on the new car. So yes, they will change the rollcenter a tiny bit.

I tried today the higher ball ends of the T4 14 on my car and the issue is fixed!

So Tak was right when he said that plastic edge of the upper link was causing the problem. My conlusion is that the short ball ends don't work with no shims just because the plastic is touching the bulkheads and causing them to bind.

Thanks for your help!
