check for side float, that could be the problem. If there is excessive side float you will need to shim it out. On my kit I filed a tiny bit off the cross peice to pull the top of the side plates closer together, this took up the side float and quietened up the transmition fine. i am not saying you need to do this but it can help. |

Hi Sam It sounds like one of three things, all simple to fix. 1. the spur gear may be warped or unbalanced. Try fitting a different gear, I use Kimboro gears as they are very rigid. Robinson gears are good but slightly softer and more prome to flex. Chech you havnt overtightened the screws on the spur as this can pull it out of alignment as well. 2. the side plates are too far apart at the top, thats the bit where you file a little off the cross bar to pull them in closer. measure with verniers to check first before you do any filing though. 3. bearing play, find shims and fit them. I found some in an established modelshop in a box of oddball bits. Shims are a nightmare to find the right size. You need to have some end float on the top shaft or you WILL melt the plastic housings for the bearings, trust me on this. You should have some end float, just not excesive amounts. |
