Post subject:  New to TC's..

Hi all. Just wanted to announce that I am the proud new owner of a FK'04. Ya I know the 05's are out, but this poor kit was just sittin at my LHS begging me to take it home and since I've never driven a TC before, I thought it might be a good jumping off point. (Truth is that they didn't have any more Losi's lol  ) Anyways, after running againts Losi's at my clubs Novice class and seeing how ALL the fast guys there run Xray's, I'm glad I bought the 04.

I had some problems with the HUGE amount of steering these things have! I used to run 2WD electric buggy's like 10 years ago and the transition has been a tough one! I routinely SLAM my car into the walls (not intentionally of course! ) but I am pleasantly surprised to find that my car can handle the abuse :P I've wiped the left rear bearing 4 times so far because I couldn't slow down fast enough after the straightaway, but I'm proud to say that I don't do that anymore haha.

I was changing out one of these bearings at the pits one day while practicing when a thought dawned on me. Why didn't I play with my dual rate?!?! (or am I thinking about exponential steering??) When I used to run 2WD buggy's, I NEVER touched the dual rate because I never had to. I also had the slipper tightened all the way down because I liked to have full control of my car. Now it seems that I can't touch my steering wheel without slamming into the boards

So here's a question for all of you experienceed drivers... How much dual rate or exp steering do you use? I have a Futaba 3PK with the stock servo and an LRP SC. Battery config is the typical saddle style. I think I messed with my exp steering and put it to -65% and with that setup, I took 2nd in the Novice class at my club :) Do you think that is too much?

Sorry for the long post, but I've been visiting this site waiting to log in for like a week now haha. Guess I just had a lot to say eh? Oh.. one of the racers there (ROAR Regional winner  told me that my diff was WAY too loose. I told him I didn't touch it out of the box and he just shrugged and adjusted it for me. Is that typical of the 04's? Anyways.. thanx in advance for your replies!

What I do is to use my setup gauges to set steering throw. I aim for 12 degrees max each side, going to 15 degrees indoors. This may mean that the settings on the transmitter are not identical (1 could be 72percent, another could be 74 percent or whatever).

To test on the track you should be able to crawl around in a circle at full lock of around 1.5m - check full circle left and right to ensure they are the same

Though I'm starting to grace the bottom of the a mains, my fingers are not as sensitive as the fast guys, so I use anywhere from -60 to -90 EXP and I dial out my steering EPA to provide just the right amount of full lock steering for the tightest corner on the track that I'm running on that day.

Hey Tyrinz, congrats on the FK04!! I own one as well and it's loaded with upgrades. Well any ways, i run -30%exp, and 50-60%epa/dualrate. Exp is how fast or slow your servo reaches full left or right, epa- end point adjustment, i show far the servo travels left and right/dual rate means the same thing, i like a car that is very sensitive so i dial out steering on my radio, and adjust the car to make it very responsive. what do you run for a suspension set up?

It is normal for the shocks to bleed out of the bottom a little in order for the pressure to equalize inside. However it should not leak out of the top. You should definitely replace the bladders as apex suggested. Here's a link to my shock building technique as well:
