Hi All

I fell a bit stupid...

I'm currently building my T4 014. I'm desperately trying to fit my T3 ball diff in the rear, but somehow, even using the new recessed bearing inserts which are specific to the T4, it just won't fit in the bulkheads, as it's too wide by a couple of millimeters. This is very weird, as in the front for instance, the spool part numbers (barring the inserts) are exactly the same between both cars...

I'm suspecting I'm missing something really obvious... Can someone please kindly help? 8)

Best,
Paul

You're not missing anything, the ball diff will need modifications with a dremel to make it fit the T4.

You need to reduce the size of the dust covers. I think there might have been something else as well (haven't done one myself, but have seen a couple done).

But to be honest I wouldn't bother. The Xray gear diff is fantastic in all conditions that I've encountered (including wet/damp tracks) and requires near zero maintanance.

Dale

thanks a lot for
1- reassuring me I'm not getting crazy
2- pointing me into the right direction. The culprit is the dust cover indeed, and it does take some dremeling to make it work. I did that yesterday and it fits now.

I believe in theory rear gear diffs are a bit harder to drive than ball diffs as they don't forgive anything. I agree the huge advantage of gear diffs are zero maintenance, but really I run 13.5 on low/medium-grip carpet, so maintenance isn't that much of an issue anyway. I have built the gear diff anyway and I will try both - easy to swap back and forth to make my own experiments :) :) :) (at least much easier than in 2wd offroad with MM  )

Thank you VERY much for taking the time to post, as opposed to the other 70+ readers ;)

Best,
Paul
